Autumnal Cake Pops

This Thanksgiving I'm thankful for cake pops. And what better centerpiece for the holiday table than an autumnal cake pop bouquet?

Cake pops come in just about every flavor imaginable; these just happen to be strawberry.

Congratulations Kirsten!

Remember Emily? Well she's going to be a big sister to a baby brother any day now!

To help her mom, Kirsten, celebrate the impending arrival of her first BOY, the Sweetshop made this little blue number.

It's the Sweetshop's Yummiest Yellow Cake Ever filled with Chocolatey Chocolate Buttercream and covered in Vanilla Buttercream frosting.

Happy Birthday Zach!

Zach is turning 3 and his birthday dream was for a Batman cake. The challenge was that Zach is allergic to eggs, so he needed an egg-free cake. I was happy to oblige!

(Once again, please pardon the bad photography!)

This cake is eggless chocolate with chocolate buttercream filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. The bat symbol is cut from black fondant.

I love the simplicity of this cake, especially compared to these Batman cakes, which I did NOT make!

Call Me!

True confession time: Until yesterday, I had never, not once in my life, baked -or even consumed- a Blondie! As a proud brunette and admitted chocolate lover, the idea of a Blondie didn't interest me at all.

But when I saw that Martha (a blonde herself- if only from a bottle- but nonetheless my cupcake idol) had a recipe for a Blondie Cupcake I knew that the time had come for me to give them a try.

And while I'm not ready to go in for a dye job and switch my allegiance from Brownies, these were very tasty! Next time I'll top them with caramel sauce or brown butter icing (or both!).

Fun With Fondant

Sometimes things are slow here at the Sweetshop. I guess I could just sit back during the slow times and do other things. But that's not me. Like some people are driven to do great things-- cure cancer, go to the moon, feed the hungry-- me, well, I'm driven to bake!

So, last night, with no projects looming in the queue, I decided to bake a quick cake and play around with some fondant. I always learn things when I bake without purpose. Last night I learned that red and black fondant can be kind of tricky on a white background. And this morning I learned that the light in my kitchen at 7:45 is not particularly good for food photography. (Please forgive the shadows and hot spots.)

I hope the guys in JBB's office enjoy this one!
