Snickerdoodles-- The Cookie Version

Last week, after the Snickerdoodle Cupcake post, I discovered something-- something truly shocking! It turns out, believe it or not, that someone actually reads this blog!

My faithful follower's name is Than (yep, that's right, Than). Apparently that's short for Nathaniel. As far as I can figure, it's OK with him if you call him Nathaniel, but don't call him Nat, or Nate, or Nathan. And since I want to stay on his good side, I'm going to stick with Than.

Than sent word through the grapevine that he was very interested in Snickerdoodle cupcakes and that Snickerdoodles were his favorite cookies. Not being one to miss an opportunity to bake, I whipped up some cookies for him and sent them to him through the aforementioned grapevine. I hope they meet his expectations!

(I've also recently discovered that a plate of beige cookies is not a very photogenic subject.)

Snickerdoodle Cupcakes

I have a love/hate relationship with Martha Stewart. (Actually, I have no relationship with her, we've never met. ) On the one hand, she seems so frigid and unapproachable. And there's the whole convicted felon aspect. But on the other hand, there's no denying that she knows how to set a table, and plan a wedding, and cook just about anything with ingredients you've never heard of.

And then there are the cupcakes. Thanks to Martha for the inspiration for these Snickerdoodle Cupcakes!

These are very similar to the cookie version, but with a soft, moist cupcake inside. They even get a little crunchy on top. They're topped with your standard seven-minute frosting and a sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar.

Chocolate Pot de Creme

I've been feeling a little homesick lately. Not for my hometown, but for a city I lived in for about 8 years- San Francisco. I'm blaming this homesickness on my friend Michele who lives in SF and keeps mentioning how much fun she's having at the Giants game, and that she can walk places rather than drive, and that she's going to all these fabulous new restaurants.

I started thinking about all the restaurants I love in San Francisco. And one of them sticks out above all the rest: Foreign Cinema. It's not the fanciest, or the most expensive, or even in a nice part of town, but the atmosphere is cool and quirky and the food is excellent.

Of course, when I mention "food" what I really mean is dessert! Every dessert I ever had there was delicious, but the Chocolate Pot de Creme was the best. So, to help with my homesickness, I made my own version the weekend, and it too, is delicious!
